If you’re like lots of folks, you’ve heard people tout the benefits of practicing meditation — better sleep, lower blood pressure, reduced stress and anxiety, fewer negative emotions, weight loss, better memory, more creativity and so on and so on and so on.
However, actually sitting down to do it … well, that’s another story. The idea of quieting your mind (or hell, even taking a 10-minute break from your wild life) can seem utterly unrealistic.
But as with all other positive change, this is all about habit, practice and consistency. Five minutes a day can change everything.
Luckily, you don’t have to do this on your own. There are tons of meditation teachers happy to steer you through the learning curve. In fact, Oprah and Deepak (yes I call them by their first names because we’re totally besties even if we’ve never met) are currently leading a 21-day meditation experience on a topic pretty close to my heart (and probably yours, if you’re reading this): happiness.
The program is already on day 17, BUT you can jump in anytime and still access happiness meditations from the previous four days.
The meditations are different every day, but each revolves around another aspect of happiness. They take about 20 minutes max, and some of that is talk time, when Oprah and Deepak offer up thought-provoking commentary. In other words, you don’t have to sit quietly for very long. And it’s SO WORTH IT.
Seriously you guys, meditation is the best thing you’ll ever do.
